Making The Switch From a Diaper Bag To A Toddler Tote

Diaper Bagvs. Toddler Tote

You carry it everywhere with you and NEVER think of leaving home without it.

Nope, it’s not your purse, wallet, or even cell phone. It’s the diaper bag!

While a moment of panic would set if we ever found ourselves lacking this vital accessories, we have gradually make the switch to what I call our “big boy bag” or “toddler tote”.

I actually got the idea from a friend when I saw her using a similar bag for her 2 year-old son last fall.

For us, the biggest driving force to this change was potty training. After the 1st portable potty seat we had broke (scaring our poor son after he fell in) we had to upgrade our travel commode. This second seat was bigger than the first and thus would not fit in our current diaper bag. If we were to keep practicing “going” while on the go, a larger tote was needed.

To keep things simple and so that I could repurpose the bag down the line, I purchased a Thirty-One tote that zipped close at the top. I figured the side pockets would be great for storing snacks, drinks, and toys and I could keep emergency clothes, pull-ups, wipes, the potty seat, and flushable wipes inside and out of site. Just for fun, I had it embroidered as well (luckily my son’s first name and our family’s last name all start with the same initial so everyone can use the bag).
