5 Things I Learned in My 1st Year of Blogging

1st blogging year.jpg

A year ago I decided to start a blog. Originally, it was a way for me to get back into creative writing but has turned into so much more.

It’s amazing what has happened in a year. I’ve written about family and relationships, fashion, work, and parenting. I’ve shared recipes, pictures, crafts projects, and advice. I’ve even meet fellow bloggers from all over the country.

On top of that I’ve started a new job, went on some wonderful family vacations, and continued to watch my baby boy turn into a little man.

Along the way, I’ve learned a few things about blogging I wanted to share:

  • You don’t have to blog every day.

Blog once a week. Blog twice a week. Blog every day if you want. Find what works for you and your schedule.

  • Social media is your friend.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, they all are great tools for a blogger to use. They let you reach out and connect with your readers on a different level. They also help get your blog to people who may never read it.

  • Write about what you know.

This was the best advice I received when I started blogging and it’s so simple. Write about what you know. What do I know about? Turns out a lot but it pretty much boils down to being a working mom and trying to juggle it all.

  • Don’t be afraid to share.

There have been subjects I’ve wrote about and questions whether to publish it to the blog. Is this too personal? Will people connect with this? In the end I decided to share the post. While it might be embarrassing to one person, it may help or comfort another.

  • Connect with other bloggers.

There’s a great blogging community that’s willing to offer advice, input, and encouragement. Reach out to them. You may find some contacts and friends along the way.

Thanks for following along on my crazy journey and here’s to another great year of blogging!
